August 2014 Fishing Report, Robinson Brothers Guide Service, Apalachicola

by on Aug.28, 2014, under Apalachicola, Carrabelle and St. George Island

‘m not exactly sure how it got to be the end of August so soon, but here it is Labor Day Weekend already. Just to recap – we’ve had a most excellent summer fishing wise. Those of you who follow us on facebook have most likely seen fishing photos posted fairly regularly.  We’ve had Great weather for not only tarpon from a flats boat but also many many happy Bay fishing anglers and plenty of successful Offshore trips.

This is generally the time of year for transition – Tommy heads to the keys. Chris, Nathan, David & the rest of the Flats Guides are going into Fall Redfish mode and Bay Guides are looking forward to a little bit cooler weather for their fall trips. That said, we’re still seeing some tarpon and Chris caught Spanish mackerel to smoke for dip. (he makes really tasty smoked fish dip)

I’ve begun the process of contacting anglers who fished with us this past spring and summer to find out who wants first dibs on their days in 2015. If you did and if you do and you haven’t already done so – please reply to this email or call me to reserve your trips.

If you haven’t yet made your plans for this weekend, we still have some fishing trips available. Hope the weather cooperates for our fishing and for your holiday plans! The Pelican (Riverfront condo) is not yet rented this weekend if you get the urge to visit Apalachicola. Have fun, be safe & use sunscreen!

Apalachicola Fishing Report, 1/16/13, from Robinson Brothers

by on Jan.16, 2013, under Apalachicola, Carrabelle and St. George Island

Capt. Tommy Holland called me this morning to tell me that 1. when I tried his phone yesterday, he was up a tree watching a deer so he couldn’t talk and 2. his anglers last Friday caught somewhere between 150 and 200 speckled trout between the river and the Bird. We’ve had such mild weather recently the Bayfishing has been fine. Can’t promise anything weather-wise and fish-wise this weekend but it’s probably going to be better than doing yard work! (For the latest fishing photos, check out Robinson Brothers Guide Service on facebook.)

The Houseboat “Reelaxation” on the Apalachicola River is the perfect Weekend Get-Away place. Waterfront living at it’s ultimate, it can sleep up to 4, with a King sized bed in the 1 bedroom and a queen sleeper sofa. Tie your boat up to the dock on the water side, clean & grill your fish on the deck, relax on the screened porch watching the sunrise view and the river traffic and enjoy the open living area with flat sceen TV & leather lounger. Reelaxation is available this coming holiday weekend and also for spring break rentals.

The Swan, located on Water Street in downtown Apalachicola features a view of the Apalachicola River while boasting capacity to sleep 6 in comfort. 2 Queen Beds and a sleeper sofa. It is tastefully decorated with upscale appliances and furniture with a private elevator and offstreet parking, located within 2-3 blocks of everything downtown. The Swan is open this coming weekend!

The Ibis is also a 2 bedroom, 2 bath condo with a large “Sunset View” veranda. Comfortable and close to everything Apalachicola has to offer. As luck would have it, Ibis is empty this weekend as well.
I hope by now you have caught the drift of my message. Please visit our website for more Vacation Rental information and feel free to call or email if you have any questions.

February 2011 Redfishin’ Report from Robinson Brothers, Apalachicola

by on Feb.17, 2011, under Apalachicola, Carrabelle and St. George Island

On Feb 2nd the Apalachicola groundhog, (aka Capt. Tommy Robinson) poked his head outside and failing to see his shadow declared an early spring and promptly headed down to the Keys to start fishing for Permit. For those of us left behind here in Apalach, we have been blessed for the past two weeks with a good dose of spring conditions. Clear skies, zero percent chance of rain, warmish days 60-70 degrees with mild winds and cool evenings 40-50 degrees. Note: Tommy has 1 or 2 weekend trips still open in the Keys.

Capt. David Heinke has reported large schools of bull redfish that have assembled along the beaches of our barrier islands, with daily catches of reds in the 15-30lbs class. “The fish are on top in fairly shallow water, so we are able to sight cast to the fish. The reds are readily taking flies and of course any jig thrown their way. As long as this pattern holds–and the long range forecast says it will–these fish should be around and catchable for awhile”.

And if you don’t care about the fishing, but still would like to see our area by water, we offer sight-seeing & shelling trips, sunset cruises and river tours based out of Apalachicola.

Stop by & see us if you come to Apalachicola during your spring break!

Winter to Spring…Apalachicola Fishing Report, 1/25/11, from Robinson Brothers Guide Service

by on Jan.25, 2011, under Apalachicola, Carrabelle and St. George Island

In the last week or so I’ve had at least 3 people ask me what I do this time of year, since there’s not any fishing here now. ??? Oh misinformed ones, let me explain to you how it’s not all about cleaning closets & emptying the recycling bin in the winter time, although that’s been done. This is the time of year when we’re nagging people to get their deposits in or lose their days this summer, plus there’s always the IRS to keep happy.  And I’m happy to report that less than a week ago Capt. Nathan Donahoe caught 10 redfish over 20 lbs (like the one above) and 5 keeper sized Reds. IS there fishing this time of year? Oh, Heck Yeah!! Some days are warmer than others and some fish like it cold – like stripers, but you actually CAN have a successful day of fishing here in the winter time. Believe it or not!

In just a few weeks, Spring Breakers will be heading our way and fishing from our boats and our beaches for trout & spanish mackerel and many other species of inshore fish. Just a heads up to those of you who are planning to be here for your spring break to make sure to reserve your favorite Captain before someone else gets to them. If you can’t remember their name, check out our Captains Bios on the Guide Service website. Or you can call me or Valerie – we can hook you up!

Hope to see you soon!
Happy (what’s the next holiday? Oh, yeah!) Groundhog Day!
