Cedar Key Fishing Report, 5/15/12, from Capt. Jimbo Keith

by on May.15, 2012, under Cedar Key

Hey there folks,  hope all is well on your part of the big pond. Well folks the trout have slowed down a bit after the big moon we had last week. We are still catching them just not as many as we were.
There have been a few more Redfish showing up around the islands. So maybe this means things are looking up. Cut mullet or shrimp still seem to be the best bait.
There are more Spanish Mackerel showing up on the closer flats. I saw my first big school on Friday afternoon. This means the bait is on the move.
The Cobia are starting to arrive in numbers around the channel markers.  A friend of mine caught two keepers on his last trip out. I hope this helps you out there and we’ll see ya on the water.

Cedar Key Fishing Report from Capt. Jimbo Keith, 5/7/12

by on May.08, 2012, under Cedar Key

Hey there folks hope all is well on your part of the water. It sure has been one pretty week in Cedar Key.
The Trout fishing is still off the charts with limits of fish being caught by most anglers.
Spanish Mackeral are starting to show up good with some up to 5 lbs being caught. The best action is on some of the deeper grass flats south of Snake Key.
There were a few more Cobia caught this week. I did see one caught that was in the 50lbs range.
I’m looking forward to another stellar week with good weather. Good luck out there and we will see you on the water.

Cedar Key Fishing Report, 4/24/12, from Capt. Jimbo Keith

by on Apr.24, 2012, under Cedar Key

Hey there folks I hope y’all are enjoying this warm spring. The fish seem to be loving it.
The Trout still continue to be biting good. The Cajun Thunder Cork rig is still producing the big limits. We have caught a few bigger trout this week up to 24″.
The Tarpon are showing up early in our area. There has been several seen off the public fishing pier every day.
The Spanish Mackerel have shown up this past week on the flats. Just look for the birds and watch closely for the sky rocketing Mack Attach. Get in this area and it should be productive.
This past week on a charter one of my dads crew caught a nice 331/2″ Cobia. So of your put on the water keep an eye out for them. “THERE BACK”!!!!
Good luck out there and we will see you on the water.

Cedar Key Fishing Report, Capt. Jimbo Keith, 4/16/12

by on Apr.16, 2012, under Cedar Key

Hey there folks hope all is well with y’all. We are having one heck of a spring trout bite. We are catching big fish and big limits. As long as you are able to get out on the flats you should be catching the fish. The key right now is finding the flats with bait. There are plenty of small fish on all the flats. Find the flats that have the bait on them and you’ll find the bigger trout.
We are also catching some monster Spanish Macks. They too are on the same flats that have bait.
We are starting to see some schools of BIG Black Drum moving in on the outer flats.
It shouldn’t be long before the Cobia are here so get your gear ready and pray for calm weather.
Y’all stay safe and we’ll see ya on the water.

Cedar Key Fishing Report, Capt. Jimbo Keith, 4/2/12

by on Apr.03, 2012, under Cedar Key

Hey there folks hope all is well where ya’ll are at. We are having one heck of a spring. The Speckled Tout are biting like crazy on the same Green Moon colors. Look for grass flats in 3 to 5 feet of water and if you catch one use your shallow water anchor or anchor pin to stop you. Right now the fish are schooled up tight so you want to keep casting in the same spot that you catch the first one. The Sand Trout have also started to turn on. We have been catching some real nice ones up to 18″. This size makes a fine meal when there fried up with some hush puppies.
The Red Fish are still a little scattered in our area. There are a few starting to show up around the islands at Cedar Key but not in any big numbers.
The Sheep Head are still biting good on some of the shallow structures in 10 to 20 feet. I’ve heard that Fittler Crabs have been the best choice in bait. Well folks y’all stay safe and we’ll see ya on the water.

Cedar Key Fishing Report from Capt. Jimbo Keith, 3/27/12

by on Mar.28, 2012, under Cedar Key

Hey there folks hope y’all had a good week. This has got to be my favorite time of year. The Turkeys are gobbling and the gulf is alive. Man have we been catching the trout. Most of which were caught under the Cajun Thunder Corks. As the tide would get high we would switch to just a plain Saltwater Assassin jig. This technique works well when the water is deeper than 5 feet.
We also have been catching fare amounts of Spanish.  They were also caught on these techniques.
Our Red Fish have slowed down a bit. No one really knows why but we expect it to pick up any time. If you’re looking to go fishing get in touch with your favorite fishing guide and get a date booked. The weather is nice and they might not have many dates left. Until next time we’ll see you on the water.

March 12, 2012 Fishing Report, from Cedar Key Capt. Jimbo Keith

by on Mar.13, 2012, under Cedar Key

Hey there folks hope all is well with y’all. The fishing has really picked up since the last time I talked to y’all. The flats around Cedar Key have really come alive with bait. The water temp is pushing 70 degrees and has everything feeding. This past week we caught some nice limits of Trout. All of which were caught on Cajun Thunder Corks and Saltwater Assassin jigs. Green Moon and Stinky Pink have been the hot colors. We also caught some Spanish Mackerel
I haven’t fished for reds this week because the trout action was so hot. Y’all be careful and we’ll see you on the water.

Cedar Key Fishing Report, 2/20/12, from Capt. Jimbo Keith

by on Feb.20, 2012, under Cedar Key

Hey there folks hope y’all had a good week. The fishing was fair this week. The cold front at the beginning of the week slowed the keeper trout down a bit. We are still catching big numbers of small trout with a keeper mixed in every now and then.
The reds moved back in the creeks at the beginning of the week. Then at the end of the week they were back on the points and oyster bars. That’s about it for this week. Stay safe and we’ll see you on the water.
