Cedar Key Fishing Report, 1/21/13, From Capt. Jimbo Keith

by on Jan.22, 2013, under Cedar Key

I had a great afternoon on Saturday, 1/19/13:
The weather and fish were awesome. I had three guys and we caught over a 100 Trout in 4 hours. Believe it or not the fish are still stacked of the flats. On Monday I got a chance to fish with my dad (Capt.Jim) and my son Tyler. We went out to one of the Gainsville off shore reefs to try out my new Lowrance structure scan. While we were there we caught some nice Sheepshead. After that we ran back to the flats and caught a nice mess of Trout. All the Trout were caught on a Saltwater Assassin Jig in Green Moon. The Sheephead were caught on Shrimp. Well folks hope y’all can make it out on the water this next week because the fishing is AWESOME!!!!!!

Cedar Key Fishing Report, 10/15/12, from Capt. Jimbo Keith

by on Oct.16, 2012, under Cedar Key

The fishing has been at its best here in Cedar Key. As Fall quickly approaches us the fish are in a hurry to fatten up for the winter. The bait is everywhere this time of year which makes for some good fishing.
The Redfish action is still steady around the island and on the shore line north and south of us. Cut Mullet is still the bait of choice.
The Trout action has really picked up in the last couple of weeks. On the low tides I have done best at the CK pole which is located between Cedar Key and Waccassassa. The primary colors have been Stinky Pink and Green Moon. I hope this will help you out this next week. Stay safe and we’ll see you on the water.

Cedar Key Fishing Report, 8/21/12, from Capt. Jimbo Keith

by on Aug.21, 2012, under Cedar Key

All I can say about this past weekend is RAIN!!!!  Although we dodged rain storms all weekend, we did manage to catch a few nice Redfish including a 26 3/4″ on the first cast. The bite did seem a little slow this past weekend considering the way it was during the week. The bait of choice still seems to be cut or live Mullet fished on the bottom. I hope next weeks report will have a few more fish stories. Until then good luck out there and we’ll see you on the water.

Cedar Key Fishing Report, 8/7/12, from Capt. Jimbo Keith

by on Aug.08, 2012, under Cedar Key

Hey there folks, I hope everything is good around your favorite fishing hole. Around Cedar Key it’s been HOT !!!! The fishing has slowed a little due to the high water temps.
The speckled Trout are still on the deeper grass flats. When the weather permits, the Seahorse Reef is still a good bet.
The Red fish are still biting pretty good on the incoming tide. Cut mullet or live finger mullet are still the bait of choice. Good luck out there and we’ll see you on the water.

Cedar Key Fishing Report, 7/30/12, Capt. Jimbo Keith

by on Jul.31, 2012, under Cedar Key

Hey folks there is finally a Red fish bite going on in our area worth talking about. They seem to be slowly starting to school up on the oyster bar points around the islands. The key is to find the points that have bait on them.  Find the bait and you’ll find the Reds.
We had some news of a few Scallops being found on the shallow flats around Snake key in 1 to 3 feet of water.
The Trout bite has slowed a little because of the warm water temperatures. Most have moved to the deeper grass off shore but  there are still a few in close. Good luck out there and we’ll see you on the water.

North Central Florida Lakes Fishing Report, 6/25/12, from Cedar Key Capt. Jimbo Keith

by on Jun.26, 2012, under Cedar Key

Hey there folks hope y’all are staying dry with all this much needed rain. I don’t have too much of a saltwater report this week due to the bad weather. What I do have is a fresh water report on one of our last lakes here in North Central Florida. With the rain we’ve had this past week Lake Santa Fe in Melrose,FL was up about 10″ which really turned the Bass on. I’m sure it’s up more now since I was there on Friday. Out of nine boats that  were fishing an afternoon tournament  there was a 7 pounder, a 6 pounder and two 5 pounders. All the boats weighed in fish. A 5 fish limit weighing 12 pounds won first place. Most of the fish were caught on top water frogs in the grass. With the water rising the fish should continue to feed on local lakes and rivers. Good luck out there and maybe next week I’ll have a better report.

by on Jun.19, 2012, under Cedar Key

Hey there folks I hope all is well on your part of the coast. Well the fishing around our area is well into its summer pattern. Our Speckled Trout have moved out to the deeper flats in  9 to 10 feet of water.
Our Red fish are still scattered out with a few keepers here and there. Most of them being caught on cut Mullet fished on the bottom. Our Shark fishing has really picked as expected this time of year on the flats.  Well folks I hope this helped you out this week good luck out there. Cedar Key Fishing Report, 6/5/12, from Capt. Jimbo Keith

by on Jun.05, 2012, under Cedar Key

Hey there folks hope y’all had a good weekend. The weather turned out to be better than the weather man predicted.
On Saturday morning, the fishing started out a little slow. We did start with a big black drum. The red fish were a little sluggish and did not want our shrimp offerings. While we were red fishing we did manage to catch a few keeper Trout.
Since the tide was getting full we switched to trout fishing. As I ran to a flat where I had been catching a few fish we ran across a pack of clean water. Clean water was hard to find this weekend due to the high winds during the past week. As we started to make the drift, we threw  Cajun Thunder corks with a Stinky Pink Saltwater Assassin tail. On about the third cast I caught an 18″er and a few more keepers.  After that we found just what we were looking for. We continued to make drifts across the clear flat and continued to catch nice keeper trout.
We ended the day with 1 nice Black Drum ,a small Tripple Tail and 14 keeper trout. Not bad day at all. The key to that day was clear water so keep an eye out for it. Hope this helped y’all and we’ll see you on the water.

Cedar Key Fishing Report, 5/31/12, from Capt. Jimbo Keith

by on May.31, 2012, under Cedar Key, Suwannee

Hey there folks I hope y’all weathered the storm this past week. That was some much needed rain that will help in more ways than one. The rain will not only help the farmers it will help the fishermen. With all the rain we got the water temp will drop and cause the fishing fire up because of the cooler temps. Well the Trout bite is still exceptional with some bigger fish being caught up to 4.5lbs. The hot color this week was Stinky Pink made by Saltwater Assassin. If your looking for a good fight. There are some big schools of Big Uglies”Black Drum” on the flats. You can also find the tailing on top of oyster bars on the high tide. The favorite method of mine to catch these fish is a dead shrimp or a broken crab. I like to find the Drum tailing and cast the bait to him like you would a Red Drum. There has also been some Tarpon being caught right now. The best action is the mouth of the east pass of the Suwannee River around Dan May. Well folks hope this helps you land a big’un this week. Y’all stay safe and we’ll see you on the water.

Cedar Key Fishing Report, 5/21/12, from Capt. Jimbo Keith

by on May.21, 2012, under Cedar Key

Hey there folks, hope all is well in your area.  We sure had pretty weather this past week in Cedar Key.
Good tides and favorable winds made for good fishing.
The Trout  bite is still exceptional with good stringers of big fish.  This week my boat caught several Trout over 20 inches.  The top producing baits were the Cajun Thunder cork rigs and the MirroLures Mirrodine.
Our Redfish bite is still a little on the slow side.  The Redfish that we are catching are being caught on topwater baits, such as, the Rapalla SkitterWalk.  And as the day warms up we’ve been changing to live mud minnows beneath a cork.
The Cobia have moved into the channel markers and larger grass flats next to the channels.  Live pin fish and razor bellies are my preferred baits.
Good luck out on the water this next week and I hope this will help you land a big one.  Stay safe and we’ll see you on the water.
