Homosassa Capt. Zach Hoffman to Speak at January 22, 2013 Gainesville Offshore Fishing Club Meeting

by on Jan.20, 2013, under CAPT. TOMMY'S BOOK SIGNINGS, TALKS, TRAVELS, Chassahowitzka and Homosassa

When: January 22, 2013
Doors will open at 7:00PM, meeting at 7:30PM.

Where: New Lecture Hall at UF College of Vet Medicine

Capt. Zachary Hoffman will donate a Homosassa fishing trip to the raffle at this meeting.

The 2013 fishing year has started, with a clean slate for all GOFC Contests! This is a good time to make a New Year resolution to start fishing some different water…maybe Homosassa, the southern region of the GOFC contest range. Never fished that area? No problem, we have Homosassa fishing guide Capt. Zachary Hoffman (Back Country Blitz Fishing Charters) at this meeting to describe all your inshore and offshore options!

Capt. Hoffman writes…

“Homosassa is usually over looked or passed bye by most fisherman. When the average Florida Angler is asked about Homosassa, they say where the heck is that?? Most people do not realize the diversity offered by Homosassa, from an Amazing Offshore Fishery for Grouper, Snappers, and Pelagic species too an amazing back country and flats that are home to monster Red Fish, Tons of Trout, Big Snook, and even tarpon just to name a few species. On the average Inshore trip we will catch Sheepshead, Trout, Red Fish, Sea Bass, Gag Grouper, Snook, and flounder; yes, that is an average full day trip for us. I love to start a day out in fresh water and work my way out to the inshore rocks, hitting spots along the way and just adding to the species list for the day. I want to talk to your club about how to fish this area on your own as well as what to expect if they hire a guide in the area.”

“The Offshore aspect of my presentation will be focused on the amazing Gag grouper, Red Grouper, Amber Jack and Cobia Fishery found from 20-50 nautical miles offshore of Homosassa and to go into some detail about the Florida Middle Grounds. I will not be giving out specific spots for this area, but I will be telling you exactly what to look for and what areas to go to for success. I will also be bring a few rigs and showing you what works best in out area for Grouper. This will be a fast paced presentation covering a wide variety of subjects relating to Homosassa Fishing so be sure to bring a note book!”

Gainesville Offshore Fishing Club Meeting, 10/23/12. Hear a Presentation by Roffler’s Ocean Forecasting Service

by on Oct.20, 2012, under FLORIDA'S BIG BEND AND EMERALD COAST, TAMPA BAY AND SOUTHWEST FLORIDA

The Effects of the Ocean Environment, Including Eddies, on the Catchability of Tuna, Marlin, Sharks and Mahi

roffs_01.png When: October 23, 2012
Doors will open at 7:00PM, meeting at 7:30PM.

Where: New Lecture Hall University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine

Dr. Mitchell A. Roffer, our October speaker, will discuss the effects of the ocean environment on the catchability of certain game fish, and will include some background information on how and why fish search for their preferred habitat.

Dr. Roffer is President and founder (1986) of Roffer’s Ocean Fishing Forecasting Service (ROFFS), Inc. Melbourne, Florida that provides oceanographic consulting services worldwide. He received his doctorate at the University of Miami Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science in Biological Oceanography with an emphasis on Fisheries Oceanography.

ROFFS fishing products are designed to provide real-time, value-added, detailed information on ocean currents and fish catchability to help anglers locate concentrations of feeding fish. These “road maps to the fish” are derived from Earth orbiting satellite data which are integrated with information on the ecology of fish. ROFFS integrates infrared, ocean color_chlorophyll, and altimeter satellite data, as well as, HF radar, current meter, and meteorological data to produce detailed oceanographic analyses daily.

roffs_02.png The ROFFS Oceanographic Fishing Forecasting Analysis is composed of a map and a text summary that are designed to direct you to the fish. The map provides a representation of the ocean conditions that we expect you to find during your fishing trip. The text portion is unique and provides discussion of the present conditions and forecasted fishing action. The analysis is the result of studying the ocean conditions for several days while focusing on the most current, 1-12, 12-24 hour period. They provide an overall review of ocean conditions and furnish details on the locations where the conditions suggest that you will find productive (or non-productive) waters. This is based on their time-tested and field proven analysis techniques. Subtle changes in the ocean conditions often have great consequences when locating fish.

Dr. Roffer will provide a free offshore analyses to all those that attend the event. This is good for one offshore fishing trip, (a $65.00 value) per attendee.
