Looking For GPS Numbers for Tampa Bay and Southwest Florida?

by on Nov.27, 2012, under TAMPA BAY AND SOUTHWEST FLORIDA

I’ve had lots of requests on the site for GPS coordinates of reefs, wrecks and offshore fishing holes.  The list is too long to print, so it’s time to “belly-up” and get your very own copy of my latest (2012) book, The Saltwater Angler’s Guide to Tampa Bay and Southwest Florida.  Click the link to the right (on the sidebar) and you’ll be magically taken to Amazon.com, where you can get a copy at a discounted price.

In addition to GPS numbers, the book also has essential information regarding fishing from all ports from Bayport (in Hernando County) to Chokoloskee (at the top of the ‘glades).

Featured Tour -

Boat Assisted Kayak Eco Tour This is our most popular eco-adventure and combines the best of a Boat Tour, a Kayak Tour and a Walking Tour in a single great learning experience. Depending on the season, you can encounter manatees, dolphins, sea turtles, bald eagles, ospreys, herons, egrets, pelicans, alligators, rosette spoonbills and/or numerous species of fish and shore birds. A very comfortable transport boat will bring you deep into the Park with your Naturalist guide. Once we reach our first destination, we “slow” the tour down using very stable, comfortable kayaks to get you close to the flora and fauna. Imagine paddling next to a manatee or a dolphin!!! (No previous kayaking experience is required and we have single & two-person kayaks). Continue your interpretive experience with a walking tour on pristine barrier island beach … a beach that is seldom visited by tourists. (9am and 1:30pm)

Recently, Everglades Area Tours hosted Doug Gardner’s Wild Photo Adventures in the Everglades as we took him on a multiday photo safari from the freshwater swamps to the marine coastal ecosystems. Look for two episodes to be airing on PBS. In the meantime, here are links to the episodes that you can view online.
Part One is in the “Swamps” –
Part Two is not –

Did you know that the Roseate Spoonbill feed by touch? The spoonbill feeds by swashing its bill from side to side in the water. When it comes in contact with food, it snaps its bill closed capturing its prey. It has extraordinarily fast reflexes and must feed in shallow waters with concentration of its prey. Habitat loss is a major factor in it survival and why it is on the endangered species list.
