Eat at Ike’s Old Florida Kitchen at the Izaak Walton Lodge in Yankeetown

by on Feb.02, 2012, under Yankeetown and Waccasassa

Mitch and Lorraine Simmons have recently opened up a restaurant in the long-closed Izaak Walton Lodge in Yankeetown.  The menu looks great, and I’m sure the food’s as good as in their other restaurant, Neon Leon’s Zydeco Steakhouse in Homosassa.  It’s been a long while since there was anything of note to eat in Yankeetown and lots of good positive reviews are coming in.  Give it a try the next time you’re looking for a nice lunch or dinner.

Ike’s Old Florida Kitchen at Izaak Walton Lodge
352-447-4899
Open Wednesday through Sunday 11am to 9pm

First built in 1924 by A.F. Knotts, the lodge hosted many of his wealthy northern friends, and even a president or two. These visits by “Yankees” led to the tongue-in-cheek reference to Yankeetown, a name later adopted formally. Other celebrities to frequent the lodge included the legendary Ted Williams who retired to the area and came often to enjoy the lodge’s famous pan-fried grouper – an item still on the menu.

It was Sunday Sept. 1 on one of our bi-weekly MC rides, that my friends and I decided to tour the Witchlacoochee river banks and stop by the Walton Lodge to have a bite to eat at Ike’s Old Florida Kitchen.
The menu average $ 9.00 but the items where original and extraordinaire. I myself had a sole-reuben, others had fishy selections as well.
The dishes were well prepared and delicious. All of us where surprised about the quality of the food and the service.
Ike’s Old Florida Kitchen is a hard to find true gem, but a visit worthwhile.
